Kid Cudi has been away from the public eye for some time, but recently returned with a brand new studio album called Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ and a brand new lease on life. So what really happened to Kid Cudi?
First single from album, Frequency
Kid Cudi first came out in 2008 with a mixtape called A Kid Name Cudi which placed him on the map in music and Kanye West signing him to his label GOOD Music, releasing 5 albums so far as a solo artist and becoming one of the hottest hiphop rappers, with booking so many sold out shows. He was the laid back, cross over, cool vibe artist you could hang out with all day. In 2010, Cudi went into acting when he began starring in the HBO series How to Make It in America. Cudi has since appeared in several feature films, including Goodbye World, Need for Speed and Entourage. Plus, he made appearances on tv shows such as One Tree Hill, The Cleveland Show and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. And in 2015, he became the bandleader on the IFC series, Comedy Bang! Bang!.
But in the final quarter of 2016, things got a bit twisted between his biggest mentor and supporter, Kanye West, where Cudi dissed him and Drake for not supporting him which Kanye addressed at one of his concerts, ” I BIRTHED YOU! ” … Then in October he announced to the world via his Facebook Page that he was checking into rehab for depression and suicidal tendencies which was quite vulnerable of him to do and which made fans feel even closer to him. The outpour he recieved was incredible. Read his letter below:
Its been difficult for me to find the words to what Im about to share with you because I feel ashamed. Ashamed to be a leader and hero to so many while admitting I’ve been living a lie. It took me a while to get to this place of commitment, but it is something I have to do for myself, my family, my best friend/daughter and all of you, my fans.
Yesterday I checked myself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges.
I am not at peace. I haven’t been since you’ve known me. If I didn’t come here, I wouldve done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin violent storm inside of my heart at all times. Idk what peace feels like. Idk how to relax. My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it. I cant make new friends because of it. I dont trust anyone because of it and Im tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace. I deserve to be happy and smiling. Why not me? I guess I give so much of myself to others I forgot that I need to show myself some love too. I think I never really knew how. Im scared, im sad, I feel like I let a lot of people down and again, Im sorry. Its time I fix me. Im nervous but ima get through this.
I wont be around to promote much, but the good folks at Republic and my manager Dennis will inform you about upcoming releases. The music videos, album release date etc. The album is still on the way. Promise. I wanted to square away all the business before I got here so I could focus on my recovery.
If all goes well ill be out in time for Complexcon and ill be lookin forward to seeing you all there for high fives and hugs.
Love and light to everyone who has love for me and I am sorry if I let anyone down. I really am sorry. Ill be back, stronger, better. Reborn. I feel like shit, I feel so ashamed. Im sorry.
I love you,
The new album, Passion Pain And Demon Slayin, lets talk about it. Its a lengthy album of 19 tracks, with a spacey, atmospheric feel, with the help of Mike Will Made It and Pharrell Williams. My favourite track on the album is RELEASER. The album starts out great, climbs to a peak very quickly, then begins to slowly flatline. Cudi sings and raps through this atmospheric album at which can be overwhelming and overdone at times having you skip to the next song. The album speaks basically of things he’s gone through for the past 5 years, and figuring a way out of this box he’s put himself in or by others and labels placed on him. The production on the album compared to his previous albums has improved 180.
Overall, we at GOSH!ABOUT, give Kid Cudi’s Passion Pain And Demon Slayin, 3 Stars rating
