I came across these two artists searching for new, fresh music and the first song I heard was Fruit by Abra, and the beat and atmosphere of the song was elevating in a mysterious way and this video has over 4 million views. Check it out
After seeing this video, I had to find out more about her. This search began at the beginning of January 2016 and I have followed her work since. She is signed to Awful Records, mostly male-dominated, since 2014. Her first EP, BLQ Velvet, was released in 2015. Her second EP, PRINCESS was released by True Panther Sounds on 15 July 2016. It is her first release on a major label. The song “Fruit” off the album Rose was featured in an article on the best R&B songs of 2016 by The Guardian.
Her latest song PULL UP, recently came out with a video on Fader, which displays Abra’s directorial debut. Check it out
Now we have Destiny!
Dropping her recent documentary on FADER, and her new album, 1992, is the rebellious – feminist artist, Princess Nokia. from Bronx, New York. Born, Destiny Nicole Frasqueri in June 14, 1992) is an Afro-Nuyorican independent alternative hip hop and alternative R&B recording artist and songwriter based in New York City. Formerly known by her stage names “Wavy Spice” or “Destiny“, she currently performs in a collaborative duo known as Princess Nokia.
Her top single Bitch, I’m Posh, introduced her internationally, that the music industry was pounding her doors to sign her. She decided to go solo, and be an independent artist. Her hit single TOMBOY, dropped in May 2016, spread like lightning all over the internet.
These 2 female artists have been so dedicated to their craft of expression through music. Like the very breath they breathe, and its allowing them to rise up in the music game.
Their approach to their brand is more on just being themselves, like the girl next door. From the style of clothes they wear, very simple, bare, crop tanks and jeans or shorts.
Go check them out and follow them on YouTube and Instagram.
