Kaufman Music Center held their annual gala on May 24, 2016 at the spectacular Edison Ballroom in NYC.
More than 300 attendees came out and lent their support, successfully raising $500,000. which will benefit Kaufman Music Center’s Fund for Music Education, which helps thousands of children access high-level instruction in music, theater and dance. The Fund supports the extensive music curriculum at Special Music School, Kaufman’s K-12 public school for musically gifted children; provides scholarships to underprivileged students at Lucy Moses School, Manhattan’s largest community arts school; and creates opportunities for children in New York City’s neediest schools to enjoy musical theater performances.
The KMC gave out two awards:
The recipient of the Creative Arts Award went to David Robertson, a world-class conductor and current director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra who has devoted his time and talent to working with students and young artists throughout his career.
The former Kaufman Music Center Trustee Solange Landau received the Patron Award for her outstanding dedication and commitment to the Center which have proven instrumental to their success for several decades. She is a long time supporter.
Throughout the evening, we enjoyed beautiful performances by world renowned musicians. Violinists Gil Shaham and Adele Anthon with pianist Orli Shaham. A special performance by father-and-son team Peter Robertson and David Robertson. The program also featured the exceptionally talented students from Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School and Lucy Moses School.
