On Thursday, March 24, 2016, I was thrilled to attend East Side House Settlement (www.eastsidehouse.org) 17th Annual Gala Preview of the 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), at the Jacob Javits Center, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover, the UK’s largest premium automotive manufacturing business, built around two iconic British car brands. This event was splendid, put together very well to experience these amazing brands in action. This high-energy event provided guests with access to a private preview of the entire auto show before it officially opened to the public the next day.

More than 1,300 leaders from the worlds of finance, fashion, society, and philanthropy attended this important evening to benefit East Side House Settlement, a leading social services agency that serves children and families in the South Bronx and surrounding communities. The night’s Gala Chairs were Chris LaSusa, Philip L. Yang, and Joan P. Young, and the Benefit Committee was chaired by Mirella Afonso, Rafael Azzi, Helio Campos, Maria Cecilia B. Campos, Sam P.C. Dangremond, Anne Deane, Manuela Giannini, Aline Pimentel, and Mariana Zois.

“It’s such a pleasure to partner with Jaguar Land Rover for the Gala Preview which provides a critical source of funding for East Side House Settlement’s college preparation programs,” said John Sanchez, Executive Director of East Side House Settlement. “We’re thrilled to have the commitment of such an iconic brand to support the efforts of our teachers, social workers and experts in serving the residents of the South Bronx to provide education and technology training as gateways out of poverty.”

The Gala Preview included cocktails, a curated display of the latest Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, and a private dinner for Benefactors.

They held an exciting live auction of the anticipated 2017 Jaguar F-PACE First Edition, the special model created to celebrate the launch of the brand’s first performance SUV. Potential buyers had bid for the opportunity to own this limited production model which featured exclusive design details and a unique paint colour: the stunning Caesium Blue.

The company showed their full Jaguar Land Rover model line-up like the 200 mph Jaguar F-Type SVR. The $200,000 Range Rover SV Autobiography and the world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible, The Range Rover Evoque Convertible. For more information about Jaguar North America and Land Rover North America can be found on their website at www.jaguarusa.com and at www.landoverusa.com

Other live auction packages included: the opportunity for 4 guests to dine at the famed New York institution Rao’s; a three-night(3) stay at Blackberry Farms; a VIP experience in a private Mets Skybox at Citi Field, and an exclusive golf outing at Jasna Polana. In addition, guests had the chance to bid on a various selection of silent auction items including Parisian getaway, professional beauty packages, and luxury accessories such as a special edition Karina Fong Arianna shoulder bag.

The event was a huge success, raising over $500,000 to support East House Settlement, a leading social services agency that helps children and families in the South Bronx and surrounding communities. It is important that organizations like this are there to help this area of New York,  one of the nation’s poorest congressional districts.

“On behalf of the automobile retailers of greater New York, we wholeheartedly support the staff at East Side House Settlement and the important role they play in helping young people to attain their goals,” said Mark Schienberg, President, Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. ” We also salute this year’s sponsor, Jaguar Land Rover North America, and past sponsors whose support over the last 17 years have helped raise over $5 million for East Side House Settlement.”

This event was made possible through the generosity of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association and the New York International Auto Show, as part of a proud tradition of dedicated community service.
